Visitors who have booked ski holidays in the Portes Du Soleil region may be confused due to the sheer number of runs on offer, but staff can give tips on the best places to indulge the hobby.
The region is well-known for being one of the largest devoted to the pastime in Europe, as it is covered in 650 kilometres of trails. These runs cover the Swiss/French border and see many people entering both countries on a daily basis in order to launch themselves down as many snow covered mountainsides as possible. As there is so much choice available, some holidaymakers find it difficult to decide on the areas they will target first.
For example on the Swiss side, there is Morgins, Champery, and Champoussin among several others. In this area, visitors tend to soak up the traditional feel of the resorts, while expert skiers occasionally try and tackle the difficult Swiss Wall. The French side also consists of many different runs that cater towards first timers and the more advanced fan of the hobby.
Popular areas include Avoriaz, Chatel, Les Gets and Morzine, which get their fair share of visitors on chalet holidays. Some are busier than others, while there are also quieter, picturesque areas that guests may be lucky enough to ski on first after snowfall. In order to track down these hidden gems, those who have booked chalet holidays may find their hosts take them on specially-guided tours of the area.
These are a great introduction to the different types of runs on offer in the region. Experienced staff tend to share their in-depth knowledge of the region and often point guests in the direction of their favourite runs. As well as getting a great understanding of where they should go depending on their abilities, visitors may also be treated to a one-day tour that takes in slopes on both the Swiss and French side.
